FUNDAMENTALS OF MEDITATION
Date: Saturday June 5th
Time: 10 am to 4 pm with a potluck lunch
Location: 2665 Cedar Hill Road
Cost: by Donation
Pre-registration is necessary, Email Jamie

The desire to have more concentration, loving kindness and compassion is fundamental to meditation. Yet, even with these desires, it can still be very challenging for some people to meditate! The experience of having a busy mind, or the challenge of soreness and strain in your body can be some of the reasons why we choose not to meditate. Learning how important it is to first prepare for meditation through settling and relaxing your physical body as well as stating an intention for that which you wish to unfold is necessary.

In this workshop you will explore Feldenkrais movements and breath meditation, developing the connections between your belly, breath and eyes. We will take time throughout the day to integrate these movements and meditation with the four classic meditation postures.

please bring a cushion, blanket & wear loose clothing for movement and meditation

Experiencing back pain seems common to most people at one time or another, either from lifting something too heavy or from repetitive movement, yet most of us know the commonly held wisdom of “lift using your legs” and other similar notions.

In Feldenkrais you will learn that Awareness Heals - knowing from the inside, from your own experience how to use your back in a more efficient way that prevents you from overuse and pain. You will leave these classes with a clearer understanding of the relationships between your back, hips and legs with an added spring in your step.

Sometimes more effort is used than what is needed in a given activity — leading to chronic soreness and pain.

“Meditative traditions and modern research on the nervous system have clearly documented that the human nervous system is capable of enormous plasticity, transformation and experiences of freedom. Let’s practically explore the interconnections between meditation, mindfulness and recent findings from the field of neuroplasticity. To a great degree, we can build and shape what we want, as long as the interest and determined attention is sustained.” Lama Mark
